He has worked in Venture Capital and at two of the world's largest biotech companies (AMGEN and Chiron) while USA based. He took an Australian biotech public in 2005 and has also worked for Mitusbiushi Pharmaceuticals in Japan. In the USA he has also worked with platform technology companies in the biotech space some include: Caliper, Zymark & Beckman. For small companies he has successfully raised both private and public money.

In addition, he provides advice on inventorship, patentability, patent validity and infringement matters. Victor joined the firm in 1999 and became a partner in 2002.

Previously, Victor worked with another intellectual property firm for four years and held postdoctoral research positions at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medial Research (WEH) and at the Queensland Institute of Medial Research (QIMR). His postdoctoral work focused on human T cell immunology and the molecular biology of schistosomiasis. Victor has lectured frequently on patent matters at various universities and has co-authored a course book for Monash University.

Dr Aylward resigned from the board of Peplin as an Executive director in September 2004 and as Director, Innovation Research in March 2005 and continues to pursue his own interest in cancer drug discovery as a Visiting Fellow at the Queensland institute of Medical Research (QIMR).

Dr Aylward has been an advisory panel member and a mentor at i.lab in a voluntary capacity for the past 12 months, with hands-on experience gained from moving a company from initial concept through public listing and beyond.

The firm handles top level positions incorporating CEOs, Marketing Directors, CFOs, Regional Managers and Finance Directors as well as middle market roles both temporary and permanent.

Raewyn has been a Committee Member of Queensland Entrepreneurs. She is a regular speaker at forums for entrepreneurs addressing HR and Team Issues.

She is also a member of YEO (Young Entrepreneurs Organisation), a global organisation where she has undertaken the role of Membership Chair to recruit new entrepreneurs. She was awarded the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Brisbane on the 20 September 2002 for her contribution to YEO.

In February 2001 and 2004 Raewyn also attended a British/Australian Young Leaders Forum organised by the British High Commissioner in Sydney where issues affecting the two countries were debated.

During his career, he has undertaken many roles while working in various countries as well as across many industries. The roles include Research and Development, Production and Operations Management, Project Management, Business Analyst Management, Queensland and PNG Support Manager, as well as Consultancy. The major proportion of his career has been in Sales, Account Director and Sales Management.

In the telecoms sector, Chris was CEO of rapid growth manufacturing businesses involved in the early stage commercialisation of local multipoint distribution services (LMDS) in the UK and the development and deployment of software radio products to build the UK's TETRA emergency services cellular network. He has also run a software development business, worked as a management consultant and spent his early career "on the bench" as a design engineer.

Chris has set up global distribution networks, and sold products in over twenty countries around the world.

Chris has a first class honours degree in electronics engineering and an international MBA. He has worked on various standards committees and was on the committee of the UK’s national Manufacturing Excellence Awards in the mid 1990s. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering & Technology, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and a Chartered Engineer.

Grant holds degrees in Science and Arts from the University of Queensland and has completed the Advanced Management Program of the Australian Institute of Management. He is a Fellow of the Australian Computer Society.

His experience spans initiation and integration of corporate acquisitions; conceiving, developing and launching leading global ITC products; deploying and operating data networks; building commercial, front-office and mining support systems; offshore outsourcing of major SW developments; building global organisations; development of new product markets locally and internationally. He brings together analytical thinking and leadership in the strategy and execution of market, product, financial and operational perspectives. He has held a wide range of senior leadership roles in companies in Australia and internationally, including as Senior Vice President of Saville Systems, a Nasdaq company.

Since 1983 Andrew has been a successful investor in public financial markets, real estate and emerging ventures and now works professionally in these and other entrepreneurial endeavors. He has a BSc(Hons) in Computer Science and an MBA, both from the University of Queensland.

His experience covers advising start-ups, through the various stages of development, structure, capital raising, IPO's and other expansion and exit strategies.

Tony also has experience in the international arena, assisting Australian companies in off-shore expansion as well as facilitating overseas entry into the Australian market. Tony has significant patent licensing and dispute resolution experience across parallel jurisdictions, particularly the USA and UK.

Because of his substantial 'trouble-shooting' experience in resolving difficult disputes that arise (even in start-ups), Tony is able to anticipate likely problems and give entrepreneurs direct 'hands-on' advice about avoiding disputes.

In this role with Uniseed, Peter is responsible for implementing Uniseed strategy and managing the company's investment activities, with a team of three Investment managers and an Investment Analyst. Peter is also a director of a number of investee companies including Active Torque, Xerocoat, Spinifex Pharmaceuticals and Adipogen Pharmaceuticals.

He has held senior R&D, business development and commercialisation positions in a number of Australian companies, as well as Australian universities. Before joining Uniseed, Peter was Vice President of Business Development at Progen Industries Ltd. He was Research, Development and Commercialisation Manager at Brisbane-based PanBio Pty Ltd from 1996 to 2000 and also worked in Business Development at UniQuest Pty Ltd, the commercialisation arm of University of Queensland.

Peter holds a PhD from the University of Queensland and received the Dean's Prize for his MBA Studies at the Australian Graduate School of Management. He received a Centenary Medal in 2003 for outstanding contribution to the business of biotechnology. He is a Graduate and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

John won several prestigious awards in the UK for growth and entrepreneurship and was the Ernst and Young 'Young Entrepreneur of the Year' winner in 2001 and latterly was selected as a judge for this programme in the UK.

John's business skills lie in sales, marketing and business development, entrepreneurial company establishment, growth, execution of business plans, leadership and company direction/governance.

John's personal qualities include integrity, common sense, tenacity, diplomacy, good communication skills, good analytical skills and consciousness of detail and numeracy, a positive outlook and the strength of character to see all projects through to completion.

John is one of the first UK Chartered Directors and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Outside of work John enjoys sport, travel and spending time with his young family.

GHS Consulting also provides sales planning, strategy, training and assistance to Companies in the Healthcare Technology market. Previously, Mr. Fitzgerald was the Sales Director for Australia, New Zealand and Canada for iSOFT plc, one of the world’s leading healthcare application providers. In that role he was responsible for the sales of iSOFT Healthcare software solutions and managing the sales team. Prior to joining iSOFT Mr. Fitzgerald spent eighteen years with companies such as Cerner Corporation, IBM, 3M and Bayer Pharmaceuticals in a variety of executive, sales and marketing positions.

His experience also includes general management responsibilities, including strategy development and operations responsibilities. He has run a direct marketing business, and also has extensive experience in taking new businesses into the Asian marketplace. He has a comprehensive knowledge of the Global Healthcare market, and was recently accepted as a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Grahame has led the following exciting corporate initiatives:

• The team that developed the 2008 Ergon Energy Environment Policy & Strategy which underpins the business integration response to climate change;
• Ergon Energy Solar Cities team with the Townsville Queensland: Solar City consortium being invited to establish Townsville as Eastern Australia's first Solar City;
• The team that developed Ergon Energy’s telecommunication strategy including the establishment of the groups very successful Wholesale Telco Carrier Nexium.

In earlier roles Grahame was on the merger team that developed Ergon Energy's customer service and distribution arms.

David took on the role of Chief Technology Officer with 80-20 and guided it through the development and commercialisation of significant enterprise products focused around Document Management, Enterprise Search and eventually Compliance and Risk Management. During his ten years in the role, David helped obtain two rounds of venture capital finance, grow the company to over 60 employees, create a significant US presence and develop a broad and successful European sales channel. David's technical evangelist role ensured the company received broad-based US analyst coverage and was pivotal in securing significant enterprise sales both in Australia and the US.

David now provides corporate advisory assistance for selected technology start-ups, whilst assembling the team for his next venture.

Prior to his role at AIC, he was based in London and Geneva from 1998 as Vice President of Network Services (Europe) for the airline IT company SITA, now part of France Telecom.

Rowan's career has spanned a variety of senior product and business management roles, with much of his experience gained abroad. His career began in Asia as a field engineer in the oil industry for Schlumberger Ltd., and followed with over fifteen years in the US and Europe in the electronics design and telecommunications industries.

He is an engineering graduate of the University of Queensland, and he subsequently earned his Doctor of Science degree from Washington University in St. Louis in the US.

He continues to have strong links with the University of Queensland, holding adjunct professorships in both the School of Business and the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.

Prior to joining Gesix Michael worked as a consultant in the "Big 5" environment specialising in Project Management, Quality Assurance and Risk Management. In these roles Michael was responsible for projects up to $100 million dollars in value. Michael has more than ten years Project Management experience in the implementation of SAP R/3 and the delivery of related management consultancy services.

Michael is strongly entrepreneurial by nature and was instrumental in establishing an Internet portal business servicing the Australian dental industry. He had extensive experience in government, resources, construction and materials industries and has worked extensively overseas on projects in the USA, UK, Hong Kong, Norway and Thailand.

He spearheaded Avand’s expansion into other areas and served as Chief Executive Officer until its sale to TechnologyOne in 2007. Following the sale, Mr Gorry assisted with the transition of the business into the core TechnologyOne business. Mr Gorry was a member of the Queensland State Government's Small to Medium Enterprises Taskforce, and is a founding member of Software Queensland Inc - an incorporated association representing the Queensland software development industry.

Genetic Solutions has grown to be a world leader in the rapidly moving field of animal genetic technology. Innovative products include DNA based meat traceability, DNA diagnostic tests for production traits and DNA parentage.

During a research career with CSIRO, Australia over 20 years, Dr Hetzel played a pioneering role in cattle genomics research. He led the international team that produced the world's first comprehensive bovine genetic map and also led projects which successfully mapped a large number of genes responsible for growth, carcass and meat quality and parasite resistance traits in cattle and sheep.

Dr Hetzel was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering in 2001 for his research and commercialization achievements. In 2003, he was awarded the Rural Press 'Beef Industry Achiever of the Year' award and the Centenary of Federation Medal.

Dr Hetzel graduated in Agricultural Science from the University of Melbourne in 1973 and completed a PhD at the University of Sydney in 1978. He is a Director of Genetic Solutions, Beef Genetic Technologies CRC Limited and Byron Cattle Pty Ltd.

Before joining the IT industry, Rob was a civil and structural engineer with the Brisbane City Council. He holds an honours degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Queensland, with further studies in both Mathematics from U of Q and Business Administration from York University, Canada and has completed the Executive Development Program of the AGSM at the University of NSW. Rob is a member of the AICD.

Rob has been a QR Limited Board Director since July 2005. He is the Chair of the Board's Remuneration and Succession Committee, a member of the Board's Passenger Services Strategy Committee and a Director of On Track Insurance Pty Ltd, a wholly-owned QR subsidiary. In addition, Rob has been a member of the Library Board of Queensland since July 2005, chairs the Information Management Advisory Group and is a member of the Audit and Risk Management Committee.

Rob is also Chairman of Resolute Information Technology Pty Ltd, and Chairman of a private importing and retailing company.

Mark prepares, files and prosecutes patent applications, trademark applications and design applications in Australia, New Zealand and the rest of the world. He has experience in preparing and negotiating license agreements.

IBM was an investor into over 50 of these VC's in a world wide strategic program.

Prior to being appointed to these positions he was the Manager for the Strategic Alliance program for IBM Asia Pacific for 3 years in which he tailored the alliance agreements for IBM with their preferred software partners.

John joined IBM in 1994 in the Banking and Finance Division of IBM

He holds a Masters Degree from MGSM (Strategic Management) and recently completed a Certificate in Business Strategy from London School of Business.

He is also on the Board of Industry Advisors to the School of Management at Griffith University, is an advisor for i.lab Incubator in Brisbane and an advisor and mentor to a number of companies in Australia and Asia, and regularly speaks at software industry events on the subject of partnering for growth, selecting the right investment partner and how to partner successfully with a multi national company.

He has a BA from Griffith University in Modern Asian Studies and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management he also sits on the Advisory Board of the Griffith University School of Management. He has contributed articles to a number of publications addressing management and leadership issues and is regularly invited to speak to industry and professional associations on topics such as international business, the use of the Internet as a business tool, and the challenges associated with running a global business out of Australia.

Prior to his time at Sundata, he worked as a sales and marketing representative for IBM. While there he was able to re-establish IBM's presence in the Queensland state government after a 20 year absence in the early 1980s.

Kon is also a co-founder and past Chairman of Software Queensland, an organisation that promotes the talents and strengths of software development companies to corporations and governments Australia wide. His current specialty is in providing guidance to senior and board level executives on the best use of IT. His role also involves providing products, integration, consulting and technology services to corporate and government clients.

Kon was the Queensland Pearcey Award winner in 2005, recognising his outstanding and early achievements in information and communications (ICT). Kon is currently Chair of the Queensland Governments ICT workgroup, where he is involved in consolidated industry forums debating IT issues on how to improve industry development.

Trevor is now involved in recruiting personnel within the Healthcare sector. Recent positions filled include: Board Members, Managing Director,VP Business Development, Senior Investment Manager, Director Regional Commercialisation Services, Senior Scientists, QA and Regulatory personnel etc. Trevor is also a member of the Queensland AusBiotech committee and involved in mentoring QUT graduates.

He then was a Senior Director of Oracle Asia Pacific for 4 years, responsible for service sales, and subsequently Sales VP Asia/Pacific for Software.com Inc, during which time he established their operations in a number of Asian countries.

Since late 2000 he has been an active early stage investor in a number of Australian based start-ups. Brendan is based in Brisbane, has a young family, and is a passionate believer that with the right management, understanding of markets, mentoring and product mix, that Queensland based early stage companies can compete and be successful on a world wide basis.

Most recently, he was Director of Strategic Marketing for Motorola where he was responsible for marketing its semiconductor solutions in the networking and computing markets. With revenues in excess of US$2 billion, Motorola was acknowledged as the leader in market share, brand awareness and customer loyalty. Clint joined Motorola through its US$430M acquisition of the network processor start-up company, C-Port Corporation, where he was Vice President of Marketing. Prior to C-Port, he was Vice President and General Manager of the LAN Systems Business Unit at 3Com Corporation.

Clint currently serves as a Director of Leximancer Pty Ltd, an enterprise software company with presence in Australia, USA and the UK. He is also an Industry Fellow of the UQ Business School.

Guiding GBST from start up through to it’s listing on the Australian Stock Exchange has been the highlight of a multifaceted 40 year career in information technology, education and community service. In 2007, in recognition of his significant lifetime contribution to Australian IT Research, Industry and Professional Development, John was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Queensland University of Technology (QUT).  

He is a current member of the QUT Council and serves on Faculty Advisory Committees of QUT and University of Queensland and he Chairs the South Bank Institute of Technology.

John has participated in several international business development forums for the State of Queensland. He is a member of the ICT Ministerial Advisory Group.

He has served the wider community in various capacities including founding Chairman of the Royal Blind Foundation of Queensland; President of the Rotary Club of Brisbane; Host Committee Chairman for the Rotary International Convention 2003; founding member and Chairman of Software Queensland; Member of the Business Advisory Board for CITEC; and various committees of the Australian Computer Society.

He is Fellow of the Australian Computer Society; the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Australian Institute of Management.

Alchemia is an Australian biopharmaceutical company which has developed a novel and proprietary technology for the preparation of carbohydrate compounds. Alchemia’s expertise includes drug discovery, drug delivery and synthesis of carbohydrates. The Company has applied its technology to programs developing new anti-cancer drugs and the manufacture of carbohydrate-based therapeutics. The company currently employs 50 people.

Dr Ramsdale led the company through a successful initial public offering on the Australian Stock Exchange in December 2003, which raised $21M. Prior to Alchemia’s IPO, she led private capital raisings totalling over $26M from specialized biotechnology investors. In 2006, Tracie completed the first successful merger between two publicly listed Australian biotech companies, Alchemia and Meditech. Her contributions to the Biotechnology industry were recognized in the award of the Women in Technology’s Outstanding Achievement in Biotechnology Award in 2007.

Shad has also been a director of Jemy Pty Ltd (an IT consultancy) for seven years. Prior to joining Effective Governance, Shad gained extensive experience working with both PriceWaterhouse Coopers and IBM dealing with a wide range of clients ranging from government departments to private enterprise. He gained experience in areas such as strategy formulation, project management, strategic gap analysis and strategic reporting. Shad has also been a director of Jemy Pty Ltd (an IT consultancy) for seven years.

Since joining Effective Governance, Shad has had experience working with boards to enhance the governance of their organization including conducting, board reviews, chair evaluations, director peer evaluations, skills assessments, gap analysis, and strategy workshops.

Shad's growing reputation is in the emerging fields of governance facing boards in Australia. Of particular significance is his work around IT Governance and its increasing impact on organizations. Shad has also assisted many clients in identifying the type of director required for boards, and has been involved in processes such as identifying current and required skills, and analysing the gaps between the two. Shad has provided valuable advice and assistance to boards looking to ensure smooth director succession or introduction of new board talent.

Anna sits on the Australian Government's Plant Breeders' Rights Advisory Committee and on the judging panel for the Queensland Export Awards. Anna is a member of the Queensland Committee of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia & New Zealand. She has co-authored several legal texts on technology law, including Computer Contracts: Principles & Precedents, and the international text, Technology Contracts.

Over the last three years he has assisted biotechnology and technology entities with the preparation of business plans, business cases and financial models. He teaches New Venture Development at Griffith University and is a member of the QUT R&D Committee, the Capital Sub-committee of the Queensland Biotechnology Advisory Council and the i.lab Business Incubator Advisory Committee. His clients in 2005 include TetraQ (Preclinical Drug Development Facility), Q-CRO (Biopharmaceutical Contract Research Organisation), Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research at The University of Queensland (UQ), the UQ School of Medicine, the Australian Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, the Centre for Magnetic Resonance, Life Medic and Innotech Controls.

Bradley has a Bachelor of Information Technology and LLB from the Queensland University of Technology.

He has experience in negotiating international biotechnology and information technology deals. He has practised in this area for over seven years.

Bradley is a regular conference and seminar speaker and has spoken at various CRC conferences and delivered seminars for IP Australia and for numerous Australian Universities on a range of intellectual property commercialisation issues. Bradley also regularly delivers a commercialisation training program to CRCs, Australian Universities and other groups involved in commercialising technology.

Thereafter he became the Managing Director of the largest IT distribution operation in Africa with revenues in excess of $400m. At this time he was responsible for over 35 different vendor distribution and alliance agreements. As a Business Angel he has been involved in many start-up technology businesses and has added significant value to his investee companies through his extensive international networks.

Mike has assisted a number of technology companies with the establishment and expansion of their businesses in the USA and Canada. As an advisor and on the Board of Directors to a number of other businesses, including Mining Services, Medical Clinics and Employment services, Mike primarily focuses on international growth and expansion, channel development, corporate compliance and strategic development.

Glyn has led the establishment and growth of new businesses in offshore markets, creation of joint ventures and the commercialisation of IP, the successful negotiation of high value sales with global corporates and the raising of US$30m in institutional funding.

He has advised Europe's largest R&D defence technology enterprise QinetiQ, successfully unlocking the value in the company's intellectual property, unrealised patents, new technologies and products and enabled the company to rapidly generate revenue from its technologies.

As a board member and head of the autonomous US operations of an Oxford University start-up company, specialising in electronic system level design solutions, he drove its growth and secured a US presence by establishing alliances and forming relationships with key technology partners and investors.

While with Philips in the mid to late 1990's, Glyn co-founded a business which established the first worldwide internet based electronics distribution business for Windows CE handheld computer software which underpinned Philip's entry into the new handheld computing sector.

As a Partner, President and Director in a variety of roles, Glyn has been at the forefront of the commercialisation of leading edge technologies across a diverse range of geographic and product markets and has the acumen, drive, influencing skills and strategic thinking abilities needed to ensure success in the creation and growth of new and existing businesses.

Grant is a member of the Australian Venture Capital Association Limited, the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is currently an Investment Principal at Archangel Capital Pty Ltd in Australia, an association of sophisticated investors including entrepreneurs and people with backgrounds in investment banking and corporate finance. Archangel has specialised in investing and mentoring the successful commercialisation processes of high technology ventures. Archangel invests up to $2 million per venture and has so far concluded three investment commitments.

He has also worked as a corporate legal counsel with experience in corporate structuring, negotiation and a broad range of commercial transactions and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Law), and a Master of Business Administration from the University of London.

Working directly for start-up companies and consulting to SME in early stage growth, Steve has advised on the creation, operation and sale of technology based enterprises.

Currently working with games and entertainment software developers, Steve is on the Boards of the Game Developers Association of Australia and Electronic Games Queensland and is a Director of Electronic Games Investment Fund Limited. Steve has Master of Administration from Griffith University and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Queensland.

Prior to co-founding Opengear, Bob served as CEO then Chairman of Snap Gear, a leading developer of embedded Linux security appliances. In 2003 Snap Gear was acquired by CyberGuard (NASDQ: CGFW). Before this he was CEO of Moreton Bay Ventures, a company he founded in 1996 which developed Internet messaging products. In 2000, Moreton Bay was acquired by Lineo Inc, where Bob served as COO in USA. Prior to Moreton Bay, Bob was Managing Director of Stallion Technologies, a pioneering remote connectivity company he co-founded in 1985. Bob has participated in a host of other start ups, and served on the board of a number of private and public technology companies, and government industry bodies.
